New Trend in Music Workbook (Book 1-3) series consists of three workbooks catering for Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students. Each workbook, designed to complement the New Trend in Music series, is divided into four parts:

Part A: Unit Exercises

Through different forms of listening and exercises, students consolidate what they have learnt in each unit of the New Trend in Music textbooks. The workbook also contains suggested listening pieces and self-learning activities.

Part B: Wandering Through Western Music History

Information on composers and the characteristics of music from specific periods is provided. This is complemented with corresponding listening activities, giving students a better understanding of musical contexts as well as the ideas and techniques of composers of the periods.

Part C: Recorder Exercises

More solo, unison and ensemble recorder pieces can be found here so students can have fun in performing music.

  Appendix:
“Melody World” Notation Software Demonstration and Exercises (Book 1)

A demonstration of “Melody World” Notation Software is provided, followed by a short exercise for students to make music using this multi-functional software.

Creative Arts Square (Book 2)

The “Cross-curriculum Activity: TV advertisement Design” project is provided for students to complete in groups. Students have to create slogans, songs, props and costumes, etc. in the activity, which requires knowledge of a variety of subjects. This helps students to prepare for the “Other Learning Experience”(OLE) under the NSS curriculum.
Activities with a greater level of difficulty are marked with ★ to give students have a higher level of challenge. Self-learning is thus encouraged.

All excerpts of the Workbook have been uploaded in the “Workbook Listening Excerpts” section of the “Student’s Page” and “Teacher’s Page” of this website. Students can listen to the excerpts featured the exercises anytime.
